Calling all marine enthusiasts! Your chance to help save our seas! (or, take action to preserve marine life)

Now, more than ever, preserving our beautiful seas and marine life is in the limelight.
While we can't stop the oil from devastating incredible amounts of ocean life, we still can make a difference.

For 15 years, conservation has been emphasized at the "Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!" seminars, thanks to the involvement of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the leading conservation organizations who have been involved. Now, we're taking it to another level.

It's time to show how anglers and boaters can be the first line of defense for the marine environment.

Care enough to make a difference? Now, you CAN. Here's how.

Through our new alliance with the Save Our Seas Foundation (SOSF) we are launching the Angels of the Seas Conservation Initiative, where you can create a conservation or awareness project and be recognized for it. No matter how big or small, every effort counts.

Just come up with your idea, notify us of your plan to enter, submit the entry form as soon as you can and get rolling. We will provide web pages for you to document your progress with text, photos or video clips. Plus, a forum for you to find and network with others in your community who want to help.

You have until Jan. 15, 2011 to complete your project. There will be two tiers of awards, Interim Honors and Final Awards. Projects that have submitted web pages and have made progress by Oct. 15, 2010 will be eligible for Interim Honors at the Islamorada seminar kickoff event on November 12, and still be eligible for final awards (submit web pages by Jan. 15) made at the Miami Boat Show February 17-21, 2011.

Pick your favorite marine issue and do something about it! It can be as easy as organizing a group to gather litter from the water or writing a web-based educational flyer, poster or booklet about conservation that you can also print and distribute.
We included conservation education so that individuals can participate, too, plus spread marine stewardship behaviours to communities. There's even a category for existing conservation groups to compete head-to-head.

This is a call-to-action is aimed at grass-roots levels. In the spirit of conservation, this is open to women's teams as well as mixed teams. Women-only groups will have their own category.

Teams are encouraged to select a species such as sharks, rays, turtles or any species in harm's way, or choose general marine environmental issues such as clean marinas and beaches, green initiatives, clean waterways, monofilament recycling and more. Each team can choose to conduct their own conservation project or form an alliance to provide coordinated team support to boost a project they feel is popular and effective in their specific area. They can create their own conservation event. They can submit a home-made video documentary that will motivate viewers to participate in conservation.

Get your team together now, submit your entry form and roll out your plans!
