SOUTH FLORIDA EVENT- Another great success!
We were pleased to have our tenth anniversary seminar in South Florida at the Ramada Inn Airport and Marina Bay Docks. Whew, ten years and almost 5,000 graduates! The weekend kicked off with a Friday welcome party. Saturday began with classes on Basics, Offshore, Inshore and Bottom Fishing. After lunch, the ladies had a fly fishing demonstration, then chose from several fishing skill stations to practice hands-on fishing techniques. The program concluded Sunday with a half-day fishing, followed by fillet demonstration. Following is the fishing report:
Ft. Lauderdale Fishing Adventure Reports, 3/25/07, ½ Day
Described by one of the ladies as "a little sporty," the weather was beautiful and many had a chance to experience kite fishing. The wind was 20-30 mph, however the motto was "Wind brings fish!" The group departed from the Radisson Bahia Mar, Ft. Lauderdale , FL.
* Whatever It Takes/Chuck Baldwin : Fishing was slow until one of the ladies realized she had brought bananas onboard. Once she got rid of them, three sailfish appeared. Kite fishing with live bait, 2.5 miles off Port Everglades in 150 feet of water, Bonnie O'Hara, Tulsa , OK , released her first sailfish ever. The other ladies on board brought back three 8-10 lb. dolphin. Errin Gimbert, Chulutoa , FL released an 8-foot, 100 lb. thresher shark, an unusual find for this area. Everyone had a chance to fight fish.
* Lady Pamela : Kite fishing with live bait in 120 ft. of water off Port Everglades, the ladies caught ten 10-15 lb. dolphin. Everyone caught a dolphin. They also trolled and bottom fished, releasing a bonita and a shark.
* Stinger/John Peters : The ladies experienced trolling and some live baiting. They had a couple of triggerfish on, but didn't find what they were looking for.
Marlin My Darlin : Fishing in the same area where the sailfish were caught, the ladies had a shot at a sailfish and dolphin.
* Kilowett/Eddie Flack : Trolling artificial lures in 120 -300 ft. of water off Port Everglades, the trip was described as "incredible!" by Debbie Rich, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, who caught a 15 lb. wahoo on a blue and white lure in 300 feet of water. She said she was shaking and it took her a half hour to recover. They practiced bait rigging. Some ladies learned how not to get seasick, others experienced the opposite. "This experience has been overwhelming!" said Denese Johnson, Ft. Lauderdale , FL.
* Catch My Drift : Although the ladies enjoyed their half-day on the water, the fish did not cooperate.
* Take the Ladies Fishing Sponsors
