Are you ready to learn from the pros? Hands on one-on-one seminars teaching you deep sea fishing, equipment of the sport and much more! Meet new friends and network with an extraordinary group of people- people like you who love the outdoors! No experience needed! We even supply the tackle.

Nearly 7 hours of personalized fishing instruction with speakers and great guides, plus an informal Friday meet and greet! Please register at least a month in advance especially if you want to fish on Sunday for us to reserve the boats! See the photos and catches from last year HERE!

Early Scholarship of $79, – Regular rate of $99! Optional Fishing on Sunday is $55/party/drift boat and $145 Offshore Fishing Yacht that takes six people. Fishing is out of Fort Lauderdale from Fishing Headquarters (Seabreeze just south of Las Olas Blvd) and a few other locations.

Social Angler (for those who have been to LLGF before) – $35.  Does not include the educational day and hands-on skill practice. To get one -on-one time with these captains during the skill practice would normally cost hundreds of $. For that you need to sign up with the full registration. This option is for those who just want to fish with us on Sunday.

Chosen professionals in their respective fields, these speakers are passionate about their craft and are happy to share their knowledge and secrets with the class! Imagine one-on-one with a captain, yet not paying for private lessons, that’s what the University is all about!

Jeanne Towne – Accomplished female angler and tournament champion!

Capt. Lee Lavery

Capt. Lee Lavery will help you learn about the equipment, rods, reels, tackle, what it is and how to use. She leads the chapter and sets a great role model!

Capt. Dennis Forgione – (pending) a well acclaimed captain in South Florida! The ladies love Capt. Dennis and may have a chance to fish with him on Sunday!

Friday, 6:00-7:30 pm: Stop in as we set up and meet the others, preview the auction! Informal.

Saturday:  3.5 hours instruction, 2 hours hands-on skill practice!

8:30-9 check-in, auction preview time

9-10 Welcome Announcements, conservation, fishing protocol – Betty Bauman

10-11: Fishing Basics – Capt. Lee Lavery

How to: choose and use various rods and reels, slow the fish using drag system, choose tackle. Even if you are already fishing, learn things no one ever told you!

 11 – 11:10 Break

11:10-12:15: Deepwater and Bottom Fishing – Dennis Forgione, Free Spool Sportfishing Charters, Jeanne Towne accomplished angler and tournament champion How to catch or release mahi mahi, tuna, wahoo, sailfish, snapper and other offshore species!

12:15-1:15: Lunch may or may not be included (TBA) Food service available cash basis

Reeling against a human fish and conservation/dehooking, demonstrated by Betty Bauman. Learn what to wear for fishing with fashions from Aftco/Guy Harvey and Hook & Tackle!

1:15 – 1:30 Break: class photo

1:30-4:30 pm – Exhibits/Skill Stations

 1:30-2:45 Outdoor skills such as spin casting, net casting, (trailer backing tentative)

Talk with and learn from your instructors one-on-one! That is why this seminar is so special!

 2:45- 4:30 Indoor skills such as knot tying, ballyhoo rigging, lure usage, dehooking/releasing. Trailer backing may be available outside at this time as well (determined by weather and interest).

4:30-5pm (approx.): Auction, raffle and final announcements.

Outdoor Skill Stations (first)

  • SPIN CASTING with Penn Reels
  • NET CASTING
  • TRAILERING TECHNIQUES – Tentative – Practice backing your tow vehicle and trailer, with MAGIC TILT TRAILERS

Indoor Skill Stations (second)

  • DE-HOOKING FISH & INSHORE LURES
  • GETTING TIED UP IN KNOTS – MULTIPLE STATIONS
  • BALLYHOO RIGGING
  • HOW TO USE OFFSHORE LURES
  • RELEASING AND GAFFING

Sunday Optional Fishing: “Yahoo Let’s Go!” Fishing Adventure (no class instruction on Sunday)

8 am – NOON – Fishing Headquarters Offshore sportfishing boats

8:30 am – 12:30 – Party Boat “Catch My Drift” just south of A1A and Las Olas Blvd., Intracoastal side

Fish filleting demonstration upon boat arrivals.

Fishing Adventure, optional and additional. Followed by fish fillet demonstration.

Fishing Rates (Optional/additional, Rates are per person. Coming alone? Don’t worry, no need to fill the boat, we do it for you! If you register within a month of the event these rates may increase due to availability:

$55 Fishing from Party Boat (8:30am-12:30 pm, $5 gratuity not incl.) Bottom fish for grouper and snapper, perhaps mackerel! Includes use of rod/reel.

$145 Offshore Sportfishing Boat (1/2 day approx. 8 am – noon), gratuity not incl., 6 persons/per boat) Fish for sailfish, kingfish, wahoo, dolphin and more! In a half day you can get right out into the Gulf  Stream and return with fish! Sportfishing boats have a head/bathroom, some have a tower and salon, some are large center consoles with a top for shade and a head. One boat will be captained by Dennis Forgione our speaker and will leave from Haulover Marina. The others leave from Fishing Headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale.

Overnight Accommodations – Book your rooms early as there are times when hotels in this area can be sold out. At this point we do not have a specific hotel, stay where you want or let us know we’ll tell the other ladies.
