Continue south, past Key Largo, and look for mile markers (MM). Tavernier is about 70 miles south of the Miami Int’l Airport, approx.1.5 hour drive. The Elks Club is at MM 92 on U.S. 1, bayside of the road, Tavernier.

Overnight Hotels: Sunset Inn see website. Most offshore boats leave from Whale Harbor in Islamorada however one may leave from Matacumbe just West of Islamorada. For inshore/backcountry some may leave from Robbies Marina and some from Sundowners in Key Largo. You can check with us for the choices to decide if you want to stay closer to the fishing.

What to bring: You do not need to bring fishing equipment. PLEASE bring cash or checks for the raffle and silent auction to help us save the credit card fees. We do accept credit cards but prefer cash or check. Auction starts Fri. & ends Sat.).  No children nor pets please. We recommend you bring a pen/paper and sweater on Saturday, as the classrooms can be chilly. Those fishing on Sunday, bring your lunch/food/ drinks for the Sunday fishing trip.

Dress: Friday night: casual. Saturday and Sunday: casual, shorts/T-shirts are fine. Please wear soft sole shoes or boat shoes to the class if you plan to board any boats during the skill station session on Saturday.

Cancellation: See the reservation policy on our website – There is a link to it from the registration form. A brief explanation is on a page of this confirmation.

Fishing Adventure Notes: Be sure you have pre-paid for your Fishing Adventure to guarantee your fishing trip, as space is limited. If you noted on your registration there are others in your party, we will try to put you on the same boat but cannot guarantee it. Type of fishing (trolling, live baiting, bottom fishing, etc.) will be the preference of the boat captain. We inform the captains of our objectives and expect them to do their best to make your fishing trip enjoyable. There are no class instructors on the boats, so it is up to you to ask the captain and/or mate questions. We cannot guarantee you will catch fish, but we usually have fish brought to the dock when fishing conditions are good.

Please be prepared for the unpredictable Florida weather. Brief rain showers are not unusual. Wear soft sole shoes. Swimsuits are OK. For the charter, bring sodas, snacks/lunch, sunscreen, rain gear and a hat. It can be cool in the morning, we recommend zip off pants and a jacket. Your rods & equipment will be provided on boats. You will be asked to sign a waiver. Boats will depart at various times, beginning at 7:00am and returning at 1 or 1:30pm on Sunday, Friday is full day. For Party boat check their hours, Captain Michael from Robbies Marina. Exact times will be on your name badge. Arrive a half hour early. Most boats will depart from Whale Harbor, except for the Party Boat (directions to be provided). If you are not on your boat at the time of departure that you have been told, you will miss your fishing trip and forfeit your fishing adventure fee. The boats will not return to the dock earlier for any reason except unsafe conditions. They will not return because of seasickness! Bring money for gratuity for the charters, approx. $35-$45 per person/ sportfish or inshore, $8-10/Party boat. There is no complimentary food on Sunday but the restaurant is open. You will need to arrange for your transportation to the dock. You will be allowed to keep the legal sized fish you catch. Please bring you own cooler, plastic bags and ice, as we do not provide them.

For Bonus Fishing Friday see the times on the website. You are responsible for being on time as the staff will not be on site for your departure or return.

Saltwater Fishing Licenses: You will not need a fishing license if you are a Florida resident 65 years old or older or if fishing from the party boat. Most charter boats cover the license and we will notify you if you need a license, you can call the toll free number the day of the class if necessary. You can obtain one at Bass Pro Shops, www.myFWC.com,tackle shops or call 24 hours a day (they will give you a code number) via a credit card to 1-888-FISHFLORIDA.
