If going book your hotel ASAP this is a busy season!
For Homosassa scalloping, snorkel in crystal clear water, hold your breath, take a shallow dive down, place either your hand or small dip net behind or under the scallop, and place it in your mesh bag. For scallops you will learn what to look for, they have blue eyes that shine. A novice can do it. You can get multiple scallops at a time. The boat works as a team go get scallops then shares them. They are great to eat and some local restaurants there may cook them for you. Plus our guides have excellent recipes.
Scalloping is part snorkeling experience, part treasure dive and part saltwater fishing experience that can be enjoyed by family members of all ages. Spend quality time and create memories that will last a lifetime! Enjoy a scenic ride out the Homosassa River to the BEST scalloping grounds in the state. All it takes is a snorkel, a mask and a mesh bag to get in on the action. Bring your own for your own comfort or they have snorkel setups.
The bag limit is 2 gallons of whole scallops, (in the shell), or 1 pint of scallop meat per person per day. In addition, no more than 10 gallons of whole scallops or 1/2 gallon of scallop meat may be possessed aboard any vessel at any time. There are no guarantees you will catch your limit. Rain and weather can affect scallop availability and depth.
Cleaning of scallops is available dockside. Captains supply license, coolers, ice and expert instructions, in and out of the water. What you’ll need to bring is snorkel, mask, fins (if you have), drinks, food, and sun protection, (hat, t-shirt, lotion, sunglasses).
We highly recommend the morning charters for a few reasons, fewer boats so it’s not as crowded, (especially weekends), it’s not as hot and less chance of summertime thunderstorms. However if you like to sleep in then do the afternoon. First people to sign up get the morning trip. Sunday scalloping is available for those who want to do it twice, Saturday is the main day.
Red Ed will coordinate on site, LLGF office will work on the arrangements and assign boats in advance.
Our guides have perfected the technique of catching Scallops in Homosassa, and over the last few seasons, they usually catch our limit of scallops within two hours! It’s like an Underwater Easter Egg Hunt!
While it’s mostly ladies, men and teens can register too to include the family.
Registration is only $35 per person, scalloping is $97 per person for a 4 hour trip. You book your own room, see below for choices.
